Why we are needed

Today, 10% of UK children are thought to have a mental health problem - potentially 3 in every class. In pockets of Cambridgeshire, there are children as disadvantaged as in the worst inner city hot spots. But, because the county is considered prosperous, services are limited and these children are then 'doubly deprived'.

If such vulnerable children don't get proper support early on, the repercussions can be enormous, from academic failure and anti-social behaviour to mental illness and a legacy of dysfunction. All of which puts huge pressure on local schools, social services and the youth justice system. In fact, nearly half of UK young offenders are known to have a mental health problem, costing the state a hundred times more than it costs to give psychological support at a young age.
